Dear Parent,
I hate 12 step meetings. I hate God. I hate anyone who has a program for recovery. To all who come into contact with me, I wish you pain and suffering.
Allow me to introduce myself. I am your child's addiction. Cunning, baffling, and powerful-that's me. I have afflicted millions and I am pleased. I love to catch your child in the element of surprise. I laugh at him when he uses me to be in control, because it is I who control him. I love to tell him he is worthless and watch him believe me. I love pretending I'm his friend and lover. I have given him comfort, have I not? I was there when he was lonely. When he wanted to die, he called me. I love to make him hurt. I will give him instant gratification and all I ask of him is long-term suffering. I've been there for him whenever he invited me. Together we have been able to destroy the good things in his life.
People do not take me seriously. They take strokes and heartattacks and diabetes seriously. How foolish they are. They believe they can keep me under control and in some compartment of their lives that won't hurt anyone. Little do they know that I will eventually demand their relationships, property, and their very souls.
I am a hated problem, yet I do not come univited. Your child chose to have me. So many have chosen me over reality and peace. More than he hates me, I hate all of you who have a program for recovery. When your child chooses to stop hiding in isolation and connect with other people he weakens me. When he decides to believe in who he really is-made in the image of God-he begins to break the power of shame I have over him.
Now I must lie here quietly. He doesn't see me, but I am still here. If he only exists then I will once agin live. When he lives, then I only exist. Until we meet again-if we ever meet agin-I wish him pain and suffering.
Yours Truly,
Your Child's Addiction

The letter to the left is from the demon of addiction to parents. Please read it. You will need to read it more than once...Brace yourself. It is very intense!
Drug addiction is an unnecessary plague that wraps around our kids and young adults. It is rampant in our highschools, on our college campuses and in the workplace. Too many lives are wasted caught up in the throws of addiction. It's time to step up... get honest with ourselves and face the demons. We can help recovering addicts beat the demons of drug abuse, but we need your help!
